Review:
Trance Sessions Solstice is a new compilation of banging trance from UK club label Nukleuz. It offers 34 tracks split across 2 CDs, many of them new and exclusive tunes.
CD1 begins with some funky tunes from Aaron McClelland aka Fonzerelli before moving on to the trancier tracks. Most of it is fresh, though you should recognise Mr Sam's "Insight" featuring Kirsty Hawkshaw. Unfortunately it's not T4L's remix but ATB's less impressive version that's included here. Also familiar are new versions of BBE's "Seven Days And One Week" and BK "Revolution", but there's plenty of brand new vocal and melodic trance as well, making it a nice if not mind-blowing disc.
Best Tracks: Aaron McClelland - Spirit, Andy Boph - Rat Trap (Melodia remix), Audioscape & Kelly C - No More Rain
CD2 begins a little misleadingly, as some nice pads give way to a dull minimal sound on the Alex MORPH remix of Woody Van Eyden's "Y68", but things soon start to get going with Cosmic Gate's "Should've Known", which gets a catchy electro remix by Wippenberg. After this we're into full-on trance - and it continues pretty much relentlessly throughout the rest of the CD.
Many of the tracks are mixer Pierre Pienaar's own, or remixes he's done under the names Phatt and Melodia, and these are generally excellent - well-produced, exciting and energetic trance. He also reworks classics from CRW and Mario Piu into massive new anthems.
Sadly, it's the mixing that lets this otherwise excellent disc down - there are many uncomfortable-sounding overlaps during the transitions between tracks.
Nevertheless, CD 2 is a tremendous collection of top trance tracks which would be worth the asking price alone. There are tracks from Dave202, Lost Witness and Sassot. There's also DJ Tatana and SeanTyas' powerful rework of Robert Miles' "Children".
Best Tracks: Cosmic Gate - Should've Known (Wippenberg remix), Lost Witness - Take Me There (Pierre Pienaar remix), Sassot - Suddenly, Phatt - La Musica, CRW - I Feel Love (PHATT remix)
Trance Sessions Solstice is an excellent compilation of reworked classics, recent hits and a whole batch of new tunes destined to be big club tracks. It offers great value for money, with CD2 being especially good if slightly let down by the mixing. Overall, this is an essential compilation if you like your trance anthemic and full of energy.
