Review:
The fifth artist album from the UK's hugely successful electronic act Faithless sees the band at their most personal and political, with tracks dedicated to their children (Nate's Tune) alongside statements on our world today (Bombs, To All New Arrivals). What you won't find here is any kind of Insomnia/God Is A DJ/We Come 1/What About Love dance anthem. This album is probably their most chilled out offering to date. The most dance-able tracks are To All New Arrivals, and Music Matters, which has a memorable chorus.
As usual, Maxi Jazz shares vocal credits with talented guest singers including Cass Fox and Dido, who provides the vocal on the dark, thoughtful Last This Day. There are more beautiful vocals, this time by Cat Power, on the blissfully chilled out A Kind Of Peace. As usual Faithless delight in experimenting, although there are occasional odd vocal samples and effects here that sound a little silly.
To All New Arrivals is a mix of good and not-so-good tracks that is best experienced as a whole album, rather than there being any particular stand-out tracks to listen to on their own. Fans of Faithless' anthemic dance singles are likely to be disappointed, but anyone who's bought a previous Faithless album and enjoyed its diversity will find a lot to like here.
As well as being probably the best live dance act in the world today, Faithless remain one of the most original, unique, occasionally frustrating but always interesting electronic acts to listen to.
